Remember that you and your character are as much a part of the story as anything else in the game. That said- there are kernels of truth in all of it, and you should be able to form your own interpretation of it all by the end. Almost everyone you talk to has an agenda, and almost everything you'll read will be propaganda. One of the most crucial things to remember about Elder Scrolls lore is that it's all so subjective. If you don't have any plans to play them, read the plot summaries of Arena, Daggerfall, Redguard and Battlespire. Read books as often as possible, especially if it' a book an NPC gives you- lots of useful information in them.įinally, if you're really serious about getting into TES lore, spend some time over at The Imperial Library and read up on some of the articles over there- particularly anything about Aedra/Daedra, religion and Imperial history. To make money, there's a certain someone in a big house in Caldera that will pay extremely well for your loot. You'll also be a smooth talker, so you can get as much info from NPCS as possible. This character will level fast enough to access the more interesting spots in the game, but not so fast that everything you come across will be too dangerous. But don't get too bogged down if you're running low on time before Oblivion.

You may also want to try out the fighters, mages and thieves guilds, as they'll be in Oblivion as well. It also gets you "acquainted" with the Dark Brotherhood, the assasin faction you can play in Oblivion. It will delves further into things, lore wise, tying up some loose ends from the main quest. Pay close attention to what the NPC's have to say!Īfter that, do the Tribunal quest line (first expansion in the GOTY set). It will get you acquainted with working for the Empire (which you'll be doing in Oblivion), and teach you a lot about the history of Tamriel and its people.

So my question from hardened ES vets: Where to go and what to do in the time I have?Ībsolutely do the main quest, it's the biggest chunk of "lore" in the game.
